-A week at Arsenal Residential Soccer Camp

A week at Arsenal residential soccer camp July 2007
By Gil White.

Day One – Sunday
Around 4pm we arrived at Shuttleworth College and checked in then we were shown to my room where I met my room mate Henry for the week.
When my Dad left me, we all went immediately to play football and luckily it didn’t rain.

Day Two - Monday
We got up for breakfast at 08.15am. After Breakfast it was straight to the fields for coaching, which was passing. I enjoyed this and then lunch. After lunch we did passing for the medal which involves passing a ball to hit a ball 15 feet away. We played some matches and then had dinner. In the evening everyone played activities and today was cricket.

Day Three - Tuesday
I got up for breakfast at 8 0’clock and after breakfast we had a coaching session which was running with the ball and after lunch was the speed medal. This involved running around cones and stopping the ball. Then after dinner we played local football teams in a series of five matches.

Day four. - Wednesday
I had breakfast at 08.15am then coaching was based on skills (turning with the ball) and then a good lunch. After Lunch we did the skills medal which involves running up to cones and turning in fastest possible time. Then after dinner we played cricket again and managed, myself, to score more than the entire other teams whole score!!! Is there an Arsenal Cricket team?

Day Five - Thursday
Breakfast at 08.15am, then coaching for shooting and after lunch it was playing for the hot shot medal that involves running from the half way line and having only seven seconds to score from the penalty spot. After dinner we played a game called over the bar that is basically where you have to score past the goal keeper and if the ball goes over the bar, and if the players behind the goal heads or catches the ball the teams swap positions.

Day six - Friday
We had breakfast at 08.15am and then played just matches until noon then before lunch we moved all of our belongings into the sports hall. After lunch we went round to the main lawn and had our presentations. I won the skills medal!!!.
They have a medal for the tidiest room; unfortunately I did not win this one - an older boy won this – he had a tee shirt with the name of ‘MESSI’ across the back so everyone laughed and clapped - the perfect end to a wonderful week.
